During this project period, we developed printable inks and manufactured several configurations of screen printed carbon based electrodes (SPCE) that can be used to electrochemically analyze different analytes, including: heavy metals (e.g. Pb, Cu, As), phosphate, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that pose a significant threat to the environment and human health. The effectiveness of our sensors in phosphate and heavy metal ions analysis was evaluated in real lake water samples from two areas in Schenectady, NY (Lake Luzerne and Lake Forest) and compared the results with the conventional laboratory-based method. The recovery (%) in spiked samples was found between 92 and 112%.
