Growing concern over PFAS contamination in drinking water and food products has accelerated interest in PFAS regulations and monitoring. Farmer knowledge, awareness and risk perception around PFAS are largely undocumented and limit effective engagement in policy development and contamination mitigation. Despite growing evidence that biosolid applications and other organic amendments can introduce PFAS into agricultural soils and water, limited research has examined how farmers interpret and respond to this issue. This project addresses this gap combining two stakeholder workshops with policy makers, farmers and agriservice providers and thirty farmer interviews to understand farmers’ decision-making regarding biosolid use and associated PFAS-related risks and increase knowledge and awareness on this topic in the same community. Through targeted outreach and networking, we aim to elevate farmer voices in this phase of rapid monitoring and regulatory advancement while documenting farmer perceptions prior to significant regulatory establishment in this sector.
