There was a delay in establishing the award. Nevertheless, Co-PI Dr. Tao led a successful field sampling event on November 14. His team met with Doug Young, the owner of Spruce Haven Farm and collected manure samples according to the EPA 1633 method. Samples were kept on ice in a cooler in the field and stored in a refrigerator/freezer upon delivery to the lab. Sample pretreatment was conducted in PI Dr. You's lab. Samples were centrifuged to collect supernatant and solid aliquots. Solid aliquots were further freeze-dried for up to 48 hours. The supernatant and solid samples were shipped on ice to Clarkson University Center for Air and Aquatic Resources Engineering and Science (Co-PI Dr. Fernando) for the identification and quantification of 40 targeted PFAS according to the EPA 1633 method.
