NYS Center of Excellence in Healthy Water Solutions-REMWell Partnership Awarded FuzeHub Manufacturing Grant

MAY 27, 2025

The NYS Center of Excellence (CoE) in Healthy Water Solutions and its industry partner REMWell have been awarded a FuzeHub Manufacturing Grant to aid in the advancement of REMWell’s innovative technology for the treatment of PFAS in groundwater.

This marks the CoE’s first successful award from FuzeHub, which supports through its Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund collaborations between not-for-profit organizations and small to medium-sized manufacturing companies in New York State. The goal of the grants program, which hosted two rounds differentiating submissions from established vs new start-up firms, is to help companies achieve success from early stage, proof of concept, through maturity.

The CoE-REMWell partnership was one of 6 winning proposals in Round 1. The $65,000 grant will support the company’s efforts to manufacture rather than procure from external sources specific components utilized in its technological solution for PFAS treatment with an aim of increasing supply chain optimization and overall cost-effectiveness.

Notes REMWell Founder and CTO Michelle Crimi, whose ongoing advancement of her technology emerged as part of her applied research as a faculty member in Clarkson’s Department of Environmental Engineering, REMWell is one of the few, if not the only company that offers fully on-site, in-place, permanent treatment of PFAS-contaminated groundwater at a competitive cost.

“RemWell is advancing our manufacturing process and optimizing cost-effective component materials to have a more manufacture-ready product that will be poised for production in New York State’s North Country region” says Crimi about how FuzeHub grant funds will be utilized.

According to Clarkson University Professor of Environmental Engineering and CoE Co-Director Stefan Grimberg, REMWell will leverage Clarkson’s state-of-the-art fabrication facilities and expertise, as well as the technical capacity of its Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) and the CoE as part of its partnership.

In a video-release announcing the Round 1 Winners, FuzeHub’s Innovation Fund Manager Patty Rechberger, and Solutions Program Manager Eric Fasser, described the ways in which each partnership’s aims aligned with that of the grants program – to serve as a pathway to technology transfer, adoption and implementation of new manufacturing processes, as well as the creation of enhanced products and services. The CoE-REMWell team will be meeting with representatives of FuzeHub later this month to further refine the scope of the project as well as expectations and timelines.

The Center of Excellence (CoE) in Healthy Water Solutions is co-led by Clarkson University and SUNY ESF and is focused on accelerating solutions to water challenges while delivering positive economic impact in New York State. It has emerged as one of the leading R&D centers in the state in PFAS treatment and technical solutions to address ‘forever chemicals’ and other contaminants in water.
